As the Holidays approach, most people go home for Christmas which makes it the worst time to travel. However, there are many people that go away for Christmas. I have found that these destinations are perfect for a Christmas getaway.
1) New York City
|Rockefeller Centre, NY|
Whenever I think of Christmas, I think of the movie Home Alone II where parents forget about their young son who finds himself all alone in New York for Christmas. He ends up staying at one of the most luxurious of hotels, the Plaza Hotel, goes toy shopping on 5th Avenue at FAO Schwarz and sees the famous Rockefeller Christmas tree. The Christmas tree is up from December and taken down one week into January. You can also go ice skating at the Rockefeller Center and Central Park, and stay for an extra week to see the ball drop at Times Square for New Years!
|Christmas in Jamaica|
For those that live in a cold climate like Canada, a hot escape to the Caribbean is a perfect getaway. You can find all inclusive vacations which means that you do not have to slave around the kitchen for a feast. Usually, resorts make a special meal with performances and other entertainment for Christmas. It is one of the most popular destinations making prices extra high and with some resorts selling out in advance as many families travel in big groups.
For ski enthusiasts, Colorado is a perfect escape during the Christmas holidays. You can hit the slopes throughout the day, as well as go ice skating. In the evening, you can cosy up by the fireplace with some delicious hot chocolate and enjoy a nice dinner after you hit the sauna or hot tub.
4) Disney World, Orlando, Florida
Disney World, although super commercialized, is the place to go if you have young children or if you are like me and are a big child at heart. Disney World has a Christmas Day parade complete with all of Disney’s Characters, live performances by popular musicians, and then a party with Mickey and Minnie Mouse. They also have fireworks and other magical treats to the visitors throughout the Holiday season!
5) London, UK
London is a great place to be for Christmas. You can partake in some world class shopping at Harrods, a massive store in central London where you are sure to find the perfect gifts for everyone. Like any other European city, you will find Christmas markets in full force in the town. London also offers museums, shows, and ice skating. As a bonus, you can find carolers around the city and enjoy some Christmas tunes!
I celebrated my Christmas in London this year with my family friends and two cute kids Adi and Sara.
Thanks for providing a great Christmas tour information to fellow travelers like us.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year in advance.
