While visiting Prauge, Czech Republic back in 2012, I saw a very disturbing art installation of four guns pointed at each other. It was on my walk between the famous Charles Bridge and the Old Town Square when I saw this installation. I later found out that it was a museum called Artbanka Museum of Young Art which was closed this January. The installation was made by David Cerny and was called “Guns”. I could not find out the meaning of this installation, I can only guess that as the guns face each other that there is no winner when it comes to guns and war. What do you think the meaning is?

David Cerny’s “Guns” found in the centre part of Prague |
I don't think the artist intended a deeper social commentary as much as the basic reaction the piece provokes. The standoff nature of pistols facing each other is very tense and alarming. When viewed along with the danger we associate with guns and the unexpected contrast of the old town of Prague, I think your reaction of shock and surprise at viewing this "disturbing" installation is exactly the attitude David Cerny intended to provoke.
Thanks, it is a really insightful interpretation thank you for sharing!
